Summary:
This article will review different methods of using VLC to pull RTSP streams from devices.
Note: RTSP does not have a Standardized format. This article is using
Hanwha based RTSP URLs
Step By Step Guide for Unicast or Multicast URLs:
1. Open VLC
Note: It should be noted that in order to utilize multicasting on a
network. Your Network Switches must be designed for Multicasting
2. Go to Media>Open Network Stream
3. Select the Network tab (Figure 1)
4. Enter the RTSP URL (Figure 1)
Note: All RTSP URLs shown are for Hanwha cameras. Check with your
Camera Manufacturer for their proper URL

5. Click the Play button (Figure 1)

6. Provide the Proper Credentials (Figure 2)

7. Notice the Multicast in the URL on the screen (Figure 3)

Note: Unicast streams are the same instructions as above. But without the term
multicast in the url

Step By Step Guide for Using UDP with VLC:
1. Open VLC
2. Go to Tools>Preferences
3. Type Demuxer into the Search box
4. Expand the category Demuxer
5. Select RTP/RTSP
6. Uncheck Use RTP over RTSP(TCP) (Figure 1)
Note: When troubleshooting video issues, it may be necessary to test
video from the camera via UDP.
