Applies to Models: Any Device that produces an RTSP stream
Summary
This article reviews different methods of using VLC to pull RTSP streams from devices.
NOTE: RTSP does not have a Standardized format. This article is using Hanwha-based RTSP URLs.
Unicast or Multicast URLs
- Open VLC.
NOTE: To use multicasting on a network, your Network Switches must be designed for
Multicasting. - Select Media > Open Network Stream > Network.
- Enter the RTSP URL.
NOTE: All RTSP URLs shown are for Hanwha cameras. Check with your Camera Manufacturer
for their proper URL. The Hanwha URLs are listed in the help article:

- Enter username and password.
The Multicast appears in the URL on the screen.
NOTE: Unicast streams are the same instructions as above, but without the term
multicast in the url. Formatted Hanwha RTSP URLs are listed in the help article:

Using UDP with VLC
- Open VLC.
- Select Tools > Preferences.
- Enter Demuxer in the Search box.
- Expand the category Demuxer.
- Select RTP/RTSP.
- De-select the checkbock by Use RTP over RTSP(TCP).
- Click Save.
NOTE: When troubleshooting video issues, it may be necessary to test video from the
camera via UDP.
