Applies to Models: WRR-Q series WAVE Servers
Summary:
You cannot access the Windows desktop when setting up a WAVE server, as there is no taskbar.
Explanation of Behavior:
When setting up the server for the first time, you cannot log in or access the taskbar. If no suitable HDMI monitor is available, you can also enable the VGA port.
Resolution:
- Safely rack mount the server without connecting power.
- Select the DisplayPort dongle or HDMI dongle from the included accessories bag for this model server.
- Connect the appropriate dongle to the top port on the GPU card in the server's rear peripheral ports.
- Connect the dongle to your monitor.
- Connect both power cables.
-
Power on the server with the power button located in the front of the server, top right
corner. - The server will take about 3 minutes to show the video.
- When you get the video, it will be on the Microsoft Out Of Box Experience screen.
- In rare instances, the VGA port will need to be re-enabled in the BIOS
Disabling the VGA port via the BIOS:
Sometimes, upon bootup, the server will only show the mouse pointer, with no taskbar. This is because Windows sees your VGA monitor as the Extended Monitor, which usually does not get a Taskbar. These servers include a Mini Display-to-HDMI dongle. You should be using that for an HDMI monitor. Please plug the dongle into the top port on the Mini Display Ports. Also, WAVE does not operate properly in a VGA environment. Improper scaling may cause the OK and Apply buttons to get cut off.
- Reboot the WAVE server.
- Press F11 to access the Boot Menu.
-
Click Launch System Setup.
- Find the Embedded Video Controller switch on the screen.
-
Put the switch to disabled.
- Follow the on-screen steps to save the changes
- Reboot the WAVE Server.
