Windows Defender is disabled via local group policy in the OS image for the Wave WRR/WRT Servers. This will prevent slowdowns from periodic/real-time scans.
This guide will show how to re-enable Windows Defender, but it is required to add exclusions for the all WAVE installation folders & the storage drives so that these directories do not get scanned.
- 1. Turn off Windows Defender (registry edit):
a. Go to gpedit.msc for Local Group Policy Editor.
b. Browse to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender
c. On right side (settings), go to “Turn off Windows Defender”
d. Select Disabled. Click Apply. Click OK.
- 2. Windows Defender settings under Settings > Update & Security
a. Limited Periodic Scanning: OFF
b. Real-time protection: OFF
c. Cloud-based Protection: OFF
d. Automatic sample submission: OFF
e. Enhanced notifications: OFF
- 3. Add folder exclusion - Windows Defender Security Center
a. Select Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings > Add or remove exclusions.
