Applies to Models: All Hanwha IP cameras
Summary:
Recording video to an SD card heavily strains the recording media. Due to those stresses, Hanwha only recommends certain micro SD cards for use in our cameras.
Explanation of Behavior:
- Using certain types and brands of micro SD media causes Hanwha cameras to act erratically or reboot constantly
- Recording medium fails at a very high rate, requiring frequent changes of micro SD cards
Resolution:
- Most off-the-shelf micro SD cards bought online or from a local retailer will be consumer-grade flash memory with an approximate maximum number of writes to each memory cell of about 3,000 to 5,000 writes before a permanent failure will occur in each cell. The quicker the overwrite cycle is, the quicker the card will degrade. Recording on events or at lower resolution/frame rate/bit rate will increase the life span of the card.
- Triple Level Cell - Consumer-grade flash 3,000 to 5,000 write cycles maximum (Not Recommended)
- Multi-Level Cell - MLC 8,000 to 10,000 write cycles maximum (Recommended)
- SLC - Single-Level Cell 90,000 to 100,000 write cycles maximum
- The recommended type is MLC (Multi-Level Cell)
- The recommended capacity for your camera is listed in the manual, and older units may have a lower maximum capacity. The current capacity is from 16GB to 512GB
- Class 10 and UHS Speed 3 Class are recommended
NOTE: Hanwha puts this information in every product manual, search
the manual PDF for "MLC", the manual will list the recommended type
and size and format of SD card.
