Issue Summary:
A network camera configured with a proper multicast IP address my experience an issue where the device IP can be pinged, but it's feed cannot be displayed or recorded by NVRs or VMS. This issue is often caused by a low TTL value.
TTL is a mechanism that limits the lifetime of data in a network, ensuring that packets are discarded if they are not delivered to their destination within a reasonable time, thereby preventing data packets from circulating indefinitely.
If the TTL value is set too low, the multicast packets may not reach their intended destination, leading to the described issue. This article provides guidance on adjusting the TTL value to resolve this issue.
Resolution:
To adjust the TTL value:
- Open a Chrome browser and enter the IP of the camera into the URL bar.
- Log in using valid admin credentials.
- Click the Gear icon at the top of the interface.
- Navigate to Basic > Video profile.
- Increase the TTL value in the Multicast section, then click Apply.
