Issue Summary:
Some customers report that new PVM monitors emit a continuous high-pitched sound from the internal speaker when powered by a PoE injector or a DC power adapter.
The 27 " PVMs have an issue with the monitor not shutting down properly when the selected video input has no active video signal. This does not impact the 32" PVMs.
This article provides the troubleshooting steps to address these issues.
Resolution:
Temporary Workaround
Use the original remote control supplied with the monitor and press the Power button to power cycle the PVM OFF/ON.
Permanent Fix
Use the following instructions and attached firmware file to update the monitor firmware to v03.01.240517.
NOTE: This must be done physically with a USB 2.0 flash drive inserted into
the USB port on the monitor (USB 3.0 will not work) as the firmware is for
the monitor.
Upgrading the Firmware
To upgrade the PVM monitor firmware:
- Download the attached firmware file to your PC and extract the .bin files, renaming the one specific to your monitor.
Example filename change:
SMT2731PV_MC5_PV0301_240517.bin -> SMT27x1PV_MC5.bin
where x = 2 (SMT-2721PV) or x = 3 (SMT-2731PV)
SMT3231PV_MC5_PV0301_240517.bin -> SMT32x1PV_MC5.bin
where x = 2 (SMT-3221PV) or x = 3 (SMT-3231PV) - Copy the firmware to an external USB thumb drive.
NOTE: Use a USB 2.0 thumb drive. USB 3.0 or higher is NOT supported.
- Insert the USB thumb drive into the USB port of the monitor.
- Using the remote control for the monitor, switch the input to Camera.
- Press the Menu button on the remote control to get the OSD menu.
- Press the Menu button on the remote control, then select Other > USB Updata [sic] FW.
- Use the direction key (>) or press Enter to begin the upgrade changing Idle (default) to Writing.
The front LED will blink one or two times during the update and then show the Camera Video. - Navigate to OSD > Reset.
- Power cycle the PVM OFF/ON.
Checking the Firmware Version
To verify the PVM firmware has been updated to the correct version, press the direction key (< or >) on the remote control to display the volume bar and while displayed, press F5.
The current version of the firmware (v03.01.240517) will be displayed.
