Applies to Models: WAVE
Summary:
Video Management Systems (VMS) capture IP video streams from various sources such as cameras, NVRs, and DVRs. These streams are typically unicast, meaning that the camera or device encodes and delivers a stream (or streams) to each device that connects and requests video. This works well with an intermediary media gateway (like WAVE Server) as the WAVE Server application is typically installed on devices with good CPUs capable of handling multiple users accessing the same stream.
In contrast, a multicast stream, which sends a single stream of data to multiple clients, uses the same amount of bandwidth as one unicast stream with the same content. This preserves network bandwidth and is useful for low-bandwidth local area networks. However, multicasting may need network adjustments to ensure it operates effectively alongside regular network traffic. This article provides instructions for adding a multicast stream to WAVE.
Step By Step Guide:
To add a multicast stream to WAVE:
- Right-click the Server icon in the Resource panel.
- Select Add Camera.
- Enter the multicast IP.
NOTE: By default, a valid Multicast IP address should be in the range of
224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 - Specify authentication parameters in the Login and Password fields.
- Specify the discovery port if needed.
NOTE: Most cameras are discovered on port 80. We recommend to check the
Auto box. - Click Scan to initiate the search procedure.
Once located, the cameras will be displayed in order. - Select the desired cameras then click Add Selected to add them to the Resource panel.
