Summary
This article outlines the services and processes WAVE uses in its day-to-day operations.
WAVE Service Functions
The following are services and functions used by WAVE:
- Public IP Address Fetching
WAVE Servers behind a NAT (Network Address Translation) must be assigned a Public IP address. To determine its Public IP address, WAVE Server uses a web service. This happens approximately once every two minutes.
- Time Synchronization
Servers with an active Internet connection reach out to the WAVE Time Server (a non-public, WAVE-hosted time server) to synchronize their system time. This happens approximately once every hour.
- Anonymous Usage and Crash Statistics
Systems that do not disable Anonymous Usage and Crash Statistics report back to WAVE analytics servers once a month.
- WAVE Sync
Systems connected to the WAVE Sync Service generate significant traffic, including:
* Keep-alive messages (to sustain connectivity between the cloud and your system)
* Adding new users or modifying existing users
* User connections and streaming to remote clients (Desktop, Mobile, Web, Cloud), etc.
