Applies to Models: Custom built WAVE servers
Summary:
WAVE VMS can be installed on most modern computers with a 64-bit architecture. That being said, software is only as stable as the hardware it is installed upon. This article provides the minimum server/client hardware and software specifications for WAVE.
WAVE Server Hardware:
Although WAVE VMS is an extremely lightweight application, the following hardware specifications are recommended for use in most situations.
For servers with less than 50 connected devices (HD IP Cameras/IO/Encoders/HD Streams)
Type | Requirement |
CPU | Intel Celeron 8th gen or AMD Athlon Gold Quad-Core or better |
RAM | 4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz or better |
Network Interface | 2 x 1 Gbps or better |
GPU | N/A (only applicable when a GUI is required) |
OS Drive | Dedicated SSD or NVMe disk for the OS, 128 GB or larger |
Storage Drive(s) | * Make sure the read/write capacity of the storage drive(s) is sufficient to handle the load created by the cameras. |
NOTE: (*) Use the WAVE System Calculator to estimate the number of servers and
storage required for your system.
For servers with more than 50 connected devices and max of 128 devices (HD IP Cameras/IO/Endcoders/HD Streams)

WAVE Desktop Hardware:
The following configurations are a minimum specification based on the number of streams in a System.
NOTE: WAVE Desktop uses only the CPU and can display up to 64 items on the
viewing grid on a 64 bit OS and 24 items on the viewing grid on a 32 bit OS.
WAVE Desktop requires OpenGL 2.1 support. WAVE Desktop automatically adjusts
the resolution of the displayed items using Adaptive Scaling technology.
