WAVE: How do I update the WAVE VMS software?

Summary

You can update WAVE VMS in several ways. While WAVE may release patch versions between official updates, the software does not automatically update to those patch versions. This article explains how to update WAVE VMS using different methods. 

WARNING: Version 6.0.1.40221 is NOT supported on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. 
This will be fixed in version 6.0.2.

Prerequisites

Before performing any update, backup your system and export your licenses. If the client or server versions differ, the system will prompt you to run in compatibility mode. 

Updating the Software

In-Client Upgrade Method

To update using the In-Client update method:

  1. Get the Build Number and Password from the Release Notes Page or a Support Agent.
  2. Open WAVE Client.
  3. Click the Menu () icon and select System Administration.



  4. Go to the Updates tab and select Update to Specific Build.
  5. Enter the Version number and Password obtained in step 1, then click Select Version.



  6. Click Download to begin downloading the selected software.



  7. Click Install Update.



    When the update is complete, it will restart the WAVE MediaServer process and the Client interface.

Offline Update Method

To update using the offline update method:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 in the previous section to download the updated file from a workstation with internet connection.

  2. Click Get Update File and select Download in External Browser.



  3. Go to your Downloads directory and copy the following .zip file to a USB stick.



  4. Transfer the USB stick to the offline system.
  5. Open WAVE Client and navigate to System Administration > Updates > Specific Build, then select Browse for Update File.
  6. Select the .zip file in your Downloads directory.

  7. Click Upload.



  8. Click Install update.



    The installation will begin. When the update is complete, it will restart the WAVE MediaServer process and the Client interface.

 

SINGLE SERVER SYSTEMS

Single server systems are systems that have only one instance of the WAVE media server application running. You can update the system using either the in-client or offline method.

To upgrade, download the WAVE server-only installation package for your device's operating system from https://wavevms.com/ and follow the installation wizard. 

 

MULTIPLE SERVER SYSTEMS (Merged Systems)

For multiple server systems, follow the steps above. Each server in the system will be updated and the media server will restart. Wait for all of the servers to complete installation and verify the status. The client will also be updated to the latest version. Once the update is complete, the client will restart with the new version.  You can then check the version of each server. All clients will be prompted to update their software to the latest version the next time they connect to the system.
