Summary:
Time synchronization is an essential function in an IP Video Management System. Even when initially set accurately, clocks might still differ after some time due to clock drift, which is caused by clocks counting time at slightly different rates.
WAVE offers Time Synchronization to coordinate independent clocks in different WAVE systems and ensure that all system timestamps are identical. This article provides instructions for configuring both online and offline Time Synchronization.
Online Time Synchronization:
If the WAVE server can access the internet, it will use a combination of publicly available Network Time Servers (NTP Servers) (such as Google, Microsoft, nist.gov, etc.) to synchronize a system's clock multiple times each minute if necessary. This standard time will be pushed to all the servers in the system, so the WAVE system will always have the same system timestamp. Online time synchronization is the default setting in WAVE.
Offline Time Synchronization (WAVE Systems in a secured LAN):
If WAVE is deployed in a private network that cannot access the internet, WAVE allows users to assign a single server in the system to act as the local time server. When using offline synchronization, it is recommended that the selected server ideally align its OS time with a local time server.
- Online Time Synchronization
- The default method in all Systems with an Active Internet connection.
- The default method in all Systems with an Active Internet connection.
- Offline / Local Time Synchronization
- The manual method in all Systems with no internet connection.
- Optional for internet-connected Systems.
Step By Step Guide:
- Log into WAVE as admin.
- Press CTRL+ALT+A and navigate to the Time Sync tab.
- If your WAVE Servers are connected to the internet, there is nothing to do here.
- If you intend to keep the servers off of the internet, turn off Sync Time with the internet.
- You should pick one of the servers to be the Time Sync server for WAVE. This server should, in turn, be synced to an NTP Server on your network.
- Click Apply.
